Behind The Times

-
Until this morning, I didn't even know that Canada had quit producing pennies in 2012.

I didn't know it either, they are even more worthless than US cents. It takes 10 of them to buy what one would buy in the 70s and that wasn't much other than a vending machine with tiny gum balls. Now I only see vending machines that use quarters for gum and it turns to nothing in after about a minute. A dollar is about like a dime once was which is why I don't get too upset with the price of gasoline as 2.99 a gallon would be like 30 cent gas in the old days.

The US should do the same, get rid of the penny and save the millions of dollars it takes to make them. Along with that get rid of the 9 tenths of a cent at the gas pumps!

Valid points, SF.

I partly agree, Mike, but I suspect sales taxes and such would gradually go UP to the next highest 5%, rather than being rounded to the nearest one. Maybe we shoild have our pennies minted in China! - lol
