About That Huge Tire In Today's M&M Post


 A friend of mine found the original text that accompanied the photo. Here's the information:

"This largest of all tires WAS manufactured by The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company at Akron. Ohio in line with the company's progressive steps as the pioneer in the rubber industry. A prominent airplane manufacturer has said the day will come when giant airplanes will be used requiring a tire of this size. 

Height—Twelve feet 

Width—Four feet 

Trend—Weighs 600 pounds 

Fabric—Weighs 150 pounds 

Inner Tube—Weighs 125 pounds 

Non-Skid Diamonds 16 inches long, 10 inches wide 

Load-Carrying Capacity—40.000 to 50.000 pounds 

Wheel—Weighs 600 pounds 

Rim—Four feet in diameter, 30 inches wide 

Total Weight—1800 pounds 


The currently tallest tire actually used in construction measures nearly 14 feet tall and almost 6 feet wide, and weighs approximately 12,500 pounds."
